Broadcast Video Production Equipment
For the consumer, “Video Production Equipment” doesn’t mean much more these days than having a camcorder and a Mac with Final Cut (or a PC with similar software). For the video professional, however, the term encompasses a diverse array of equipment and technologies that come into play long before the “Record” button is pressed, and are in use long after the scenes are shot.
The video professional has to be concerned with everything that the casual hobbyist blithely overlooks. Set design, lighting, indoor/outdoor conditions, power requirements, lens options and a score of other details must be considered before a single frame is shot. There are other categories of equipment that come into play for the shooting phase, too, such as dollies, cranes and camera vehicles for positioning lights, cameras and crew. Finally, the production and post-production steps involve many additional steps and other pieces of hardware and software.
